This shirt showcases the centuries-old Amami Dorozome dyeing technique, where garments are repeatedly dyed with natural Sharimbai wood extract and mineral-rich mud from the Amami Oshima islands of Japan to create deep, complex earth tones that cannot be replicated with synthetic dyes. This style of Dorozome dying dates back hundreds of years on these small islands north of Okinawa and they're able to produce extremely deep earth tones by using local "red mud" from the islands.
The medium-weight 13oz cotton/linen canvas fabric is heavily washed to develop a soft feel and naturally textured appearance, giving the shirt the character of a well-worn favorite from the very first wear. Each piece develops subtle tonal variations through the hand-dyeing process, making every shirt unique.
