We have new Type III style jackets from Boncoura this week, available in three styles.

Boncoura just hit us with two absolutely beautiful water-resistant suede Type III jackets. These jackets draw inspiration from the brand’s iconic Type III denim jacket. Rather than simply adapting the denim pattern, Boncoura completely redrafted the design to showcase the unique character of leather while preserving the original elegance of the fit. The proportions have been carefully refined to maintain clean lines and allow comfortable layering over shirts or lightweight knits. Unlined and cut from a single piece of leather, the jacket reveals the natural smoothness of the inner grain surface. The suede side features a short, delicate nap that gives it an exceptionally soft, refined hand. A hallmark of this leather is its natural water repellency. Whereas suede is typically treated with waterproof sprays that compromise its texture, Boncoura collaborated with skilled tanners to develop a leather that retains its supple feel while effectively resisting water. Through a specialized tanning process, the material resists water stains and discoloration, making it suitable even for rainy days. With wear, the jacket develops a rich patina and distinctive creases at the elbows, reflecting the life of its wearer. Available now in sand and black.

Boncoura's 15oz indigo denim Type III jacket is a reinterpretation of the iconic 1960s type III American denim jacket. Originally created as workwear, denim jackets eventually found their way into everyday dress. As that transition unfolded, what began as structural functionality gradually evolved into aesthetic form. The Type III jacket stands as a symbol of that shift—from utility to expression. In developing this piece, Boncoura drew strong inspiration from the rare and beautifully balanced silhouette of the 558 model. While respecting the proportions of the time, every measurement and line was carefully reexamined to pursue a silhouette that carries both ruggedness and natural refinement.

The fabric is made from Boncoura's proprietary "Ikemen" denim, the same as used in the 66 and XX jean models. The underside of the pocket flaps are lined with their chambray fabric, allowing for a beautifully aged patina over time. All components, including BONCOURA’s original hardware, have been carefully crafted to ensure long-lasting wear. Like the denim itself, these metal parts will develop a unique patina with use. Stitching is done with cotton thread, following traditional construction methods. The thread thickness varies from gauge 8 to 30, drawing inspiration from period-authentic stitch-work.
