Boncoura Loopwheeled Raw Brown Cotton Hoodie (Self Edge Exclusive)
$635.00

This BONCOURA zip hoodie perfectly balances style and comfort. One of its standout features is the hood, designed with a unique structure that naturally stands upright when worn. This thoughtful design keeps the neckline clean and adds a refined touch to an otherwise casual basic hoodie. The silhouette offers just the right amount of room, maintaining a relaxed fit without looking sloppy.
THE FIVE STEPS OF THE RAW BROWN COTTON HOODIE FROM BONCOURA 01|Where It Begins: Undyed Organic Brown Cotton The soft brown hue in this hoodie doesn’t come from dye—it’s the natural color of organic brown cotton. Once too short to spin into yarn, this fiber has been refined over the years through tireless research and breeding, evolving into a spinnable, garment-ready material. Because it’s undyed, the fabric carries a gentle warmth and rich depth that only nature can create, and it continues to change subtly with time and wear.
02|Purifying the Cotton, Blending the Color Cotton is harvested with seeds, leaves, and dust still attached. It then undergoes ginning, a process that removes larger impurities, followed by careful combing to extract pure fiber. At this stage, BONCOURA blends in a small amount of natural (undyed) cotton of a different variety. This precise mix is what creates the soft gray mélange unique to this piece. It's not just about mixing fibers—it’s about bringing out the best of each one and letting them harmonize. That principle forms the core of BONCOURA’s fabric-making philosophy.
03|Spinning Character Into Yarn The cleaned and blended fibers are then drawn out and twisted into yarn. How much twist is added affects not just the strength, but the texture, weight, and feel of the fabric. For this hoodie, the yarn is spun slightly finer than BONCOURA’s usual loopwheel fleece, creating a lighter, softer result—easy on the skin, gentle to wear.
04|Knitting With Air: Vintage Loopwheel Machines The fabric is knitted slowly on rare vintage loopwheel machines, which operate at a fraction of the speed of modern equipment. This slower pace allows the yarn to hold air, producing fabric that is soft, fluffy, and rich in character. Because of additional steps BONCOURA takes during production, only about 7 meters of fabric can be made per day—enough for just three hoodies. This "inefficiency" is not a flaw, but the secret to the hoodie’s distinct, unreplicable feel.
05|The Touch and the Tone Compared to BONCOURA’s signature fleece, this version is lighter and smoother. The brushed interior is soft and warm to the touch, making it a joy to wear even directly against the skin. The combination of gray mélange yarn and undyed brown cotton creates a unique depth of color—soft, understated, and reminiscent of textiles from a time before chemical dyes and bleaches. It’s a natural complexity that doesn’t try to stand out, yet quietly demands your attention.
