Created exclusively for Self Edge's 20th anniversary, these special edition BONCOURA 43XX WWII jeans are made from a newly developed 15oz version of the brand's proprietary IKEMEN denim. The fabric starts with BONCOURA's carefully selected blend of cotton from multiple growing regions and specially twisted yarns, with a newly developed slub yarn introduced into the weft to create a pronounced three-dimensional texture. Through extensive sampling and adjustments to the cotton blend and yarn irregularities, BONCOURA achieved a denim with a noticeably rugged surface while maintaining the balanced character of its original IKEMEN fabric. The resulting rope-dyed indigo selvedge denim is woven on vintage Toyoda shuttle looms and has an unusually rich texture that will continue to develop with wear.
For this anniversary edition, we've added exclusive Self Edge 20th Anniversary commemorative prints to the military herringbone pocket bags and specially tanned deerskin leather patch. These custom details were developed specifically for this collaboration, bringing together BONCOURA's approach to vintage denim reproduction and our two decades of working with Japanese denim makers. Finished with selvedge detailing along the coin pocket and outseams, chain-stitched hems, and a one-wash treatment followed by natural air-drying, these jeans represent one of our most involved denim collaborations to date.
The 43XX WWII is BONCOURA's interpretation of American wartime denim, incorporating the distinctive construction methods and irregularities found in jeans produced during the 1940s. The medium high rise and straight leg are complemented by intentionally asymmetrical back pockets, omitted coin pocket rivets, and custom-developed iron donut buttons. Copper rivets with punched construction, brass hidden rivets, and an assortment of cotton thread gauges contribute to the period-correct detailing, while predominantly yellow stitching with selective orange accents adds another layer of character. Rather than creating a perfectly uniform reproduction, BONCOURA embraces the inconsistencies that made original wartime jeans so distinctive.
